One of the interesting parts of the race is dealing with the ASO. Their timetable is built around European Competitors, who have shipping provided by the ASO, and have relatively fewer details to organize than those of us on other continents.

I sent entry and payment for the race in on May 20, and had heard positive things from a few sources that led me to believe I was in. This morning, I finally got real confirmation:

Bonjour Ned

J’espère que vous allez bien

C’est avec un grand plaisir de vous annoncer que votre dossier est accepté pour le Dakar 2012

Donc nous aurons le plaisir de vous avoir avec nous sur le prochain Dakar.

A bientôt

For the non-french among us, Google Translate provides:

Hi Ned

I hope you are well

It is with great pleasure to inform you that your application is accepted for the 2012 Dakar

So we will be pleased to have you with us on the next Dakar.

Soon, cordially

So, I’m in! I’m going! I wasn’t worried, but it’s sure nice to have the letter in hand! W00T!
