My favorite thing to do in the world is travel light and fast on a motorcycle. To me, that’s what the Dakar is about- traveling farther and faster. When I first saw the race in college, I thought it was the coolest thing I’d ever seen, but it never occurred to me that I could get there.
The process of going was as much about unlearning restrictions that I placed on myself, as it was about conquering outside obstacles. I had to believe it was possible, and that was not easy for me.
Below are some blog entries that I wrote leading into the race, split into a rough chronology, starting with the oldest, to tell the story as it was written. Also included are my rallyraidio call ins, which I made during the race. They are pretty interesting to listen to, at least, they are to me. These calls give a ‘you are there’ reality to what it is like to participate in this epic event.
